When I write, I tend to express my inner, deepest, secrets, fears, encounters, and my twisted imagination.
Expression of imagination is a fine art that can be delivered in many forms. Writing allows me to put myself in different situations and take on different roles that capture what it might feel like to be in the light instead of blind in the dark. My favorite writer is William Faulkner. The way he makes the reader feel sorry for characters that perform the strangest most inhumane acts is a true art that only he could master. Since reading Light in August, I have constantly looked for ways to make people sympathize for my characters whether good or bad.
When it comes to poetry, I want to grab the artistic style of Tennyson. American poetry is about images. When I write a poem, I want to capture Images and deliver them in an emotion-provoking method. I want people to either feel the emotion that I felt during construction or feel an emotion that I intend to provoke. During my first poetry contest, I performed a poem that I wrote in an attempt to cross my story telling style with my poetry. The result was a poem about a murderer that was in jail. The effect it had on the crowd was not one that I meant to provoke. As a child growing up in Tampa, Florida, the news would talk about murders one night then it wouldn't be mentioned again. This seemed to happen a few times a week and it seemed as though society was becoming numb to these events. It truly seemed as though nobody cared unless the person was above middle class. I wanted to capture this emotion by taking on the side of the killer and delivering his story of how he knew nobody cared. The ladies were turned off by the poem. However, the men had different reviews. Needless to say, when I returned to the stage I delivered a poem for the ladies. It was my first love poem.
In this section, you will find some of my poetry, stories, and academic writings. My scripts will not be posted entirely, but select acts will be.
I hope you enjoy the reading!
